As you know, part of the team went to Italy for the big students contest !
They just came back and after 3 days, 3 cities, 571 kilometers, 2 universities, 3 presentations, almost 23 hours in the transportations, we’re going to tell you everything !

Let’s start at the beginning !

Monday, May 20th : Firenze

The first day started very well with the big contest ! At 9:30 am, Dumè and Mathieu presented GoodBarber and gave the subject of the examen to the students : integrate a screenshot for an application with about twenty items + create a detail page.

After few hours of examen and individuals interviews, we got all we need to choose our new interns !

The first day was great, we are happy about the result. The students were really motivated at the point like few of them refused to come to the lunch to not stop to work. Good right ?

Tuesday, May 21st : Firenze to Fisciano (Salerno)

We arrived at the Università di Salerno around 12pm to meet the teacher of the university Mr Massimo De Santo. He is working at the ICT division (Information & Communication Technology) and invited us to have lunch near the university (a pizza of course !) before the presentation at 3pm.

We have been really surprised to see how the university looked like an american one : big green parks, far away from the city. The first one is at 15 kilometers. Actually we felt like walking in a little city. Before our presentation, we met all the people and teachers who are working with Mr Massimo De Santo and we exchanged some ideas together.

The bilan of the second day is great as well, we met a lot of interested people and we got some good ideas (we’ll tell you that soon... stay tuned !).
On the road for the last step !

Wednesday, May 22nd : Fisciano to Napoli

We started the day at the Università Degli Studi di Napoli, Federico II. There are around 150 000 students there ! And they are near to the Napoli stadium where Diego Maradona used to play ! That’s awesome and the people are pretty proud of that and we understand why ;)

The professor of the university Mr Antonio Picariello received us with Massimo De Santo and Renato Pelella (a coworker of Massimo). They came with us from Fisciano.
Around 50 students were at the presentation, they were almost all on the last year of university on major Computer Engineering. We talked and exchanged with them during around 2 hours and it was really interesting.

In general our trip was really great and interesting. We are really happy about the people we met and the students we saw. That trip was the first one but not the last one... to be continued.

What else ?

Geekette, travelette and young photographer, I spend a lot of my time on Tumblr, Instagram and Pinterest.
How to highlight and promote your app in Google Play?

During Google I/O 2013, some recent figures were given about Google Play.

48 billion apps installed from Google Play, 900 million Android activation, and soon, 1 million apps in the store. Looking at those huge figures, you may wonder how to make your app stand out from the crowd ?

Here are some tips to help you highlight and promote your app in Google Play.

1 - App name and description

      Let start with the basics.

Your app name and your app description must be as relevant as possible. The words you use to name and to describe your app will be indexed by Google Play's search engine. Think about the queries users may type in to search for your app, and use the keywords they could use in your app metadata.

But, keep in mind that first of all, you write your title and your description for a user, not for an engine bot! Avoid keyword stuffing, and non appealing content.

2 - Feature graphic

      This one is my favorite.

Even if the "feature graphic" is a promotional asset listed in Google Play, you should consider it as required. Why? Because if you don't provide one, there is no chance for you to be featured in Google Play.

Being featured in Google Play means that you could have the chance to appear in the Editor's choice.

Follow those guidelines to create the perfect feature graphic.

3 - Screenshots

2 is a minimum, but add more.

Screenshots are mandatory when you enter your app metadata. They are displayed on your details page for your application on Google Play.

Take the time to select the best content of your app when you make those screenshots: color full images in articles, smart titles, etc.

To make them even more professional, the Android team suggests that you crop off the navigation buttons from the bottom of the screenshots ;)

4 - Promo video

You can even add a link to a YouTube video.

This video, showcasing your app best features, will be displayed below your screeshots.

Videos between 30 seconds to 2 minutes work best.

Focus on a feature: Search engine

Did you know that since the Beautiful Apps Engine Update #753, you can now add a Search Engine to your app ?

It can be very useful for your users, by allowing them to search a specific term within the whole content of your blog.

How can I activate the search engine in my app?

To activate the search engine, you need to have a WordPress or WMaker section plugged into your app.

In your GoodBarber backend, go in the Content > Sections menu, and Edit your Article section. Click on Advanced Settings, Enable the search engine option, and save your modifications.

NB: If you don't see the search engine option, click on the Save the section button to flush the backend cache.

How can I customize the design of my search engine?

Once your section has a search engine enabled, you can go to the Design > Global menu to customize the design of the search bar for all your sections. You can also edit the design of the search bar for a specific section of your app.

If your app has been built with an update of the Beautiful Apps Engine previous to #753, you'll need to publish an update on the Store to activate the Search Engine. Otherwise, just go to the Publication > Update menu, and click on Publish modifications.
